Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, you loverly people. It's that time of year again! Time to make resolutions and to see how we did on the old ones. Here are the resolutions from last year (only 5 people made them):

Madeleine's:
Read more Philosophy
Do some volunteer work
Try to learn Spanish
Complete at least one art project
Go on a road trip

John:
Sell one good photograph
Work out more
Learn how to make fire
Memorize history of photography
Read opinionated literature

Gwen:
Hm.
Also try to learn Spanish with the boys.
Procrastinate less.
Get outside every day.
Keep with the free medical clinic.
Comb my hair every day.
Go on adventures.

Dad:
Pick 24 books from lists of best books (that I collected from several sources) and read them. I better get them picked so I can post them.

Downhill ski once this winter.
Go to a Cubs game.
Do a big bike ride over a weekend.
Lose 5 more pounds.

Mom:
Well, considering my track record with previous years, I should hold these resolutions with an open hand, but here goes.
Jenny's
Remember my google password so that I can post here.
Learn Spanish (Madie and Gwen- looks like we need to do something about this!
Go outside everyday- more than just to the car.
Go on that big bike ride with Dad
Mess around in a canoe "because there is nothing half so fine as..."

Well, I definitely did some volunteer work. I did not go on a road trip, but I did go camping. My Spanish is not a lot better than last year, but I have been working on it all year, and I did read some philosophy, but not continually. I don't know about an art project. I drew some pictures? Nothing big, though.

This year my resolutions are:
- Take a shower every day
- Exercise every day, with at least 5 days including cardio
- Keep my hair short and neat
- Learn more about feminism (I've started off by buying Simone De Beauvoir's "The Second Sex")
- Learn Spanish
- Stop eating processed sugar

I believe that I managed to work out more - but I'd be making excuses for myself if I said that it counted towards last year's resolution.

I do regularly read snarky articles though.

This year, I've only got one requirement of myself - everything else comes secondary. This year, my resolution is:

Don't be late.

I think I accomplished 1 of 5 last year -- losing 5 more pounds. Anyone want to go skiing at Chestnut Mountain this year if it ever snows? And Quicksilver dashed my hopes of 24 books -- took me too long. I'll have to blame Sam's broken leg for missing the big bike ride.

I still want to hit some outdoor activities this year. At least two of:
big bike ride
canoeing
hiking with camping in the wild
rafting
water skiing

I did go outside well nearly every day, except on those cold dismal rainy ones and I worked on Spanish with Ben and Sam. I did not take that long bike ride and did not mess around in a canoe. I could just reup the old unfulfilled resolutions or maybe try something pretty important...hmmm, let's see..got it. I will finish the school year with B&S with a bang, not a whimper.

Mom, how about some resolution to the batchelder letters? I think I can re-up all my old resolutions, except I have given up on the combing of my hair. I also would like to learn to knit.
